Once a car or LCV has been driven on UK roads for three years or more, the owner is legally obliged to take it to a local garage for the annual MOT test. The test itself is a regulated inspection of the vehicle’s safety, roadworthiness and emission standards. To qualify as an MOT garage, Goldbarz Autoz has shown itself to be competent with current DVSA guidelines, and we have the facilities in place to test across the latest Class IV categories.
You must book in for an MOT test annually, but motorists in Arundel and those in the surrounding Fontwell, Littlehampton, Rustington and West Sussex areas can arrange an inspection up to 28 days before their certificate expires.
Our workshop has dedicated testing bays which we strictly reserve for MOT tests. You have the option to leave your car with us, or to have it collected and delivered back to you, or you can watch us inspect your vehicle from a comfortable viewing area where we have coffee and tea available.
If your car passes the MOT test, we will issue a new pass certificate.
Should it fail the inspection, our MOT garage will provide a full breakdown of what we have found to be wrong with your vehicle and can offer the repair services you need to drive it legally again. Subject to qualifying criteria, you can have your car retested for free once the work has been completed.
If we find issues that don’t lead to failure, but which require your attention, the assigned inspector will produce a list of advisories instead.
It takes between 45 and 60 minutes to undertake an annual MOT test. In the event of a test failure, you can only remove your car if the current certificate is still in date or if you are having the recommended repair work undertaken. If you have the repairs completed at our MOT garage, Goldbarz Autoz will do everything possible to have your car fixed, reinspected and back with you on the same day as the original appointment for the MOT test.
You have the option to drop off your car and to leave it with us so we can get the test completed in time for you to pick it up before we close.
We offer free collection and delivery, or you can wait while we test your car.
Approximately 40% of first-time MOT tests result in failure and the reasons for failing the inspection are often simple to the point where the owner, with a little more vigilance, would have been able to address the issues personally without needing to involve a mechanic or a technician at all.
The most common reasons for vehicles from Arundel, Fontwell, Littlehampton, Rustington and West Sussex failing the MOT test are as follows:
If your car has a dangerous fault, you won’t be able to drive it away and it is usually best to ask us for an estimate and to have the repairs completed at our approved MOT garage. If you want to have your car repaired elsewhere, you might need to factor in recovery and transportation costs.
You should be able to take your car away after a failed MOT test as long as it is still roadworthy, and the current certification hasn’t yet expired. In the event of your certificate expiring before you can have the work completed, you will still be able to drive to your local garage to have repairs undertaken and the car tested again. You face a fine of up to £2,500.00 and up to three points added to your driving licence if you drive a car with faults or without an MOT.
